Deco Drinks at Local Edition

  • Local Edition 691 Market St San Francisco, CA, 94105 United States (map)

April Deco Drinks at Local Edition!

Join us as we enjoy vintage cocktails and tabloid conversation in the basement of The Hearst Building at 3rd & Market in San Francisco.

Conveniently located just above Montgomery BART Station, the entrance is next door to T-Mobile - look for the clock!

After the Calamity of 1906 leveled the city (and Hearst’s first building at 3rd & Market), he rebuilt, opening our current 13-story (Market St height restriction of the time) in 1911, housing the San Francisco Examiner for over 60 years!

Squeezing in our relation to Art Deco, Hearst had Julia Morgan revise the building facade, entryway, and lobby in 1938. Still unchanged today, it’s worth a peek into the lobby at the corner before ducking downstairs to the bar.

Local Edition pays homage to their location in the SF Examiner’s old printing room with a heavily newspaper-themed bar. Old typewriters at every corner, and old San Francisco newspapers full of historic events are on display all over. It’s really fun to browse the old headlines and newspaper writing style!

We’ll have reserved tables and chairs toward the back!
