Cable Car Capers Return, Saturday July 7

Deco Drinks meets San Francisco history, as we spend an afternoon visiting some of the city's most special spots, along the California Street cable car line.  Take the whole trip, or join us anywhere along the route (see the UPDATED time-table below)!

1920s - '40s-style daywear is appreciated; don a nifty hat, but make sure your shoes are comfortable. Be sure to bring car-fare -- the cable car is $7 per ride (no transfers). Cash for drinks will speed your service, too. See you there!!

2:00 pm. Tadich Grill. 240 California Street. Tadich's is California's oldest restaurant, and its interior, menu and wonderful service are a sort of time-capsule of the 1920s-'30s. Those wishing to eat lunch before the Caper (a splendid idea) should arrive at this time in order to enjoy a meal. The clam chowder is highly recommended!

3:00-3:45 pm. Gather at the bar for a cocktail at Tadich Grill.

4:00-4:30 pm. Cable car ride from Tadich Grill to California St. & Grant Ave.  Arrive at Far East Cafe. 631 Grant Avenue.

4:45-5:30 pm. The Far East Cafe dates from 1928; enjoy the antique ceiling lanterns and notice the wood paneling and booths, while you sip a libation at the bar.

5:45-6:15 pm. Cable car ride to Mason St.  Arrive at the Tonga Room, in the Fairmont Hotel, 950 Mason Street.

6:15-7:15 pm. Not just any old tiki bar, the Tonga Room dates to 1929, when an exotic bar (later remodeled in the 1950s) replaced the hotel's Terrace Plunge pool. Enjoy the lagoon and watch out for the hurricane! The drinks are generous and tropical.

7:15 pm. Stroll down the hill to our final stop, Stookey's Club Moderne (our favorite post-Prohibition, ADSC award-winning, watering hole) for a special cocktail created just for us! 895 Bush Street.
